Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Treatment

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal, usually caused from degenerative issues. Due to the stress on the lower or lumbar region of the back, this is the most common area for spinal stenosis to occur. Several factors can cause this narrowing of the spinal canal, including misaligned or bulging discs and bone spurs. Atlanta Spine, headed by our board certified spine surgeon Dr. Harvinder Bhatti, is your resource for effective treatmentsfor lumbar spinal stenosis in the Atlanta area.

Symptoms and Causes of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Lumbar spinal stenosis is usually caused over time due to degeneration or wear and tear on the spine. As the vertebrae in the lower back become compressed due to age, increased body weight and stress, the spinal canal can become more narrow, restricting the space needed for the spinal cord. Bulging discs can exasperate the problem, as can bones spurs that grow on the vertebrae and joints in the spine. If the spinal canal becomes too narrow, it can put pressure on the nerve roots, causing pain and discomfort. Some of the symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis include:

  • Lower back pain
  • Radiating pain through hips, leg and foot
  • Numbness or tingling in the legs
  • Weakness in the lower extremities

At Atlanta Spine, we work with our patients with lumbar spinal stenosis to find the best treatment options to reduce the pain and discomfort of this condition. In many cases, non-surgical treatments can be used to relieve the pressure caused by spinal stenosis, including the use of physical therapy and medications. However, when conservative approaches are not effective, we offer surgical options that can relieve the pain, using the least invasive methods available.

If you are concerned you may have lumbar spinal stenosis or have already been diagnosed, contact our officetoday to schedule an appointment. You deserve to live a life that is pain-free and to enjoy the activities that you love.
